H. T. Polymer Surge Arresters
A high-tension polymer surge arrester is a protective electrical device that uses Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs) housed in a polymer shell to safeguard high-voltage equipment (like transformers, switchgear) from damage caused by transient overvoltages (like lightning strikes). Under normal operation, the arrester acts as an insulator (high resistance). During a surge, the internal MOVs instantly switch to a conductor (low resistance) to shunt the dangerous current to the ground.
Intronics manufactures the polymer surge arresters with the following models.
| Voltage Rating (kV) | Impulse Current Capacity (kA) |
| 21 kV | 5 kA and 10 kA |
| 24 kV | 5 kA and 10 kA |
| 30 kV | 5 kA and 10 kA |
The surge arresters can be offered with a complete set of accessories, including a Bird guard, U-clamp, terminal lug, NEMA mounting bracket and ground lead.
